It's been awhile since I've done any updates to this site but I'm back at it with some worthwhile news. I'm nearing completion of a new collection of tunes (previously called and album ...LOL). It's a project I've actually been working on since somewhere around the year 2000.

Actually, I hope you have heard of this drummer! You may or most likely may not recognize the reference of the title. Frank Zappa’s final tour with a full band was 1988. He recorded it and released a live compilation album of many songs from that tour and release it as “The Best Band You Never Heard In Your Life”. The drummer on that album is Chad Wackerman, one of the best drummers in the world. Despite his illustrious career, many may not be familiar with his contributions to the drumming world. Let’s face it. Not everyone can take Zappa’s approach to music. Even if they could, it’s easy to fall in to the camp that has never been exposed to Frank’s music.

Late last spring back in May (of 2017), I had a day off in Boston. I had long considered looking up Gary Chaffee to see if I could get a lesson from him. Gary is a renown drum teacher who served as the Chairman of the Percussion Department at the Berklee College of Music who has taught literally thousands of students. Many went on to have successful careers including several of the worlds best such as Vinnie Colaiuta, and Steve Smith.

I had the pleasure of playing during the New Orleans annual Jazz Fest on Thursday April, 27Th and 28Th. So much good music goes on during this time in New Orleans that it's hard to get a handle on. But I did catch wind that renowned studio drummer, 77 year old Bernard Purdie, was doing late night set not too far away. My show ended at 1:00 am and his at 3:00 so I it was able to go catch the second half of his set.
